As a Cardiff dwelling English bride marrying a Welsh groom with Chinese heritage we were unsure from the start where we’d hold our wedding. All we knew for sure was that it wouldn’t be in China (!) but deciding between Cornwall and Cardiff was a tough decision and we looked at quite a few venues trying to find “the one” (or at least, “the one” for us).
We looked around for so long in Wales trying to find somewhere perfect for us but our minds kept returning to the venue we’d seen first – the Maritime Museum. It was in Cornwall, where I grew up, and although I was a bit opposed to a Cornish wedding when we first got engaged the wedding co-ordinator at the museum completely turned us around. In the end, we picked the venue in Cornwall because it was beautiful, the coordinator was super friendly and, crucially, it was within budget. Part of me still wishes we’d had a Welsh wedding though – maybe we could plan a vow renewal for our 10 year anniversary…? ;)

Also, we loved the idea of having a beach wedding, but the UK laws were against us and truth be told I was a little worried about the weather (although it turned out well on the day, of course!). Instead we decided to have a ‘first look’ on the local beach near to the museum before the ceremony, which turned out really well! :)

What was your budget? In the end we ended up spending just over £7000. We knew our budget would be around that from the start so we worked really hard to make sure we stuck to it. Having a rigid budget did mean forgoing some of the optional but fun extras we could have planned if we’d had more cash, but I don’t regret not spending more money now that we’re looking back on it, six months down the line!
How would you describe your wedding theme? Yellow yellow yellow yellow. With a bit of yellow. Did I mention I like yellow? ;) We also had books, movies, hearts and love in general. We wanted something that represented us and as we love to read and watch films it felt appropriate to incorporate them into the day.

What was your favourite part of your wedding? So many to choose from! My fabulous yellow shoes that I had waited so long to wear, my sister being able to bring her tiny newborn (born three days before!), seeing Tzevai on the beach for the first time… Our vows were a lovely moment, because we wrote our own and I was so desperate to hear Tzevai’s! All of it was glorious, really. I think my absolute favourite moment though was at the very end of the day when we played our last song (Grace Under Pressure by Elbow) and everyone formed a big circle around us as we danced then came in for a massive group hug at the end. It was amazing, I’ve never felt so loved!

Who did you pick as your bridesmaids &/or best man and why? I had four bridesmaids – three girls I’ve known since college, Kate, Tessa and Anna – and one of the first ‘online’ friends I ever met, Amy. These are the girls that know me best, we’ve been through a lot together and I couldn’t imagine anyone else by my side. Tzevai picked four of his closest friends for the same reason. His best man Tom actually got married six weeks before we did and Tzevai was his best man, an old pact they’d agreed on when they were 18!
