Freesia originate from South Africa; close to the equator where it thrives in tropical weather.
Freesia represents innocence and friendship. It is also the seventh wedding anniversary floral.

As befitting her given Korean Name “Young Ae” (lovable flower), Nicole Young Ae Chittenden set her dream career goals on both floral design and fashion design. At a young age, her chief passions were arranging flowers or clothing. Her friends and family members recognized “Nicole’s Style” in whatever creative project she touched -- whether it was an extravagantly wrapped gift, dinner party décor, or fashion wardrobe, she had the knack of creating something special out of nothing.
Nicole’s interest in flowers led her to her first employment at age 17 at “Engwall's Floral Shop” in Superior Wisconsin, where she grew up. She also pursued her love of fashion by attending the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as a Textile and Design major. Throughout her college years, she augmented her floral experience selling from a small flower cart near the University Student Union. During the summer she served as house florist for an exclusive country club “Northland Country Club” in Duluth, MN. Upon graduation from U.W. Madison, she continued her education in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) through the accelerated one year program for fashion design. She interned with well-known designer Carolina Herrera while simultaneously working as a floral designer for the prestigious Manhattan flower shop ”Scott's Fifth Avenue Floral.”
Following her graduation from FIT, Nicole moved back to the Midwest – Minneapolis, MN, married, and continued to pursue her passions. Her last eight years of experience include: freelance fashion designer, bridal consultant, bridal representative for top designer, ”Ines di Santo,” and floral designer. She was also the floral manager and co-owner of “Petals Flower Shop” in downtown Minneapolis on the Nicollet Mall during which she appeared on the Kare 11 Today Show several times to demonstrate floral designs.
The unique ability to discern exquisite patterns in form either in fashion or floral arrangements shows that Nicole has a comprehensive vision of an event, and does not miss details, whether the occasion be a small wedding or a large corporate event. Demonstrating fashion sense and a creative eye, her consultations include questions such as: “Are you a traditional, contemporary, urban, or romantic bride?” “ As you walk into your reception, how do you want to feel?” Along with gaining a visual sense, she wants to know and understand her clients. Creating trust, mutual understanding and warmth is essential in providing the desired beauty in an emotionally charged event such as a wedding.
With 13 years of floral experience, together with two fashion degrees and endless creativity, Nicole will continue combining her passions for floral and fashion -- because this is her dream, and she loves every moment of it!
