While some brides opt for cost-saving DIY bouquet projects with faux flowers, colorful feathers or jeweled pendants, fresh floral arrangements remain a top preference for contemporary wedding décor.
Three Colorado florists weighed in this week on their most popular and original bridal bouquet designs, this year’s hot color combinations and their typical pricing for the big day.

What makes the shop stand out? Cori Cook owner of the four-year-old Golden business, specializes in weddings and says she loves working with brides with distinct personalities and style. “Colorado has such a fun range of stylish brides, from those who want an authentic Colorado mountain-rustic look, to those who want a sophisticated city wedding,” says Cook.
What’s trending in 2012? “This year’s brides are moving away from structured, compact, tightly bound styles of bridal bouquets towards organic, naturally shaped bouquets with lots of variety of floral and interesting textural fillers like dark, feathery leaves, fruited branches, colorful berries, and cactus flowers,” Cook says.
Tell us about the bouquet you selected to highlight: The colorful and multi-dimensional bouquet, $275, includes peonies, poppies, garden and spray roses, parrot tulips, lisianthus, lysimachia, silver brunia, tree ivy, ranunculus and agonis. Cook likes this bouquet for outdoor weddings because “it has a free-form, hand-picked look, so (it) naturally works better for laid back outdoor venues.”

What makes the shop special? Owner Allison Freeman and her staff pride themselves on the personal attention they give to each client who walks in the door. “Our goal is to help guide you through the myriad choices and answer all of your questions completely so that you can feel relaxed and confident about the flowers you select,” says Freeman. The shop offers eco-friendly options to couples such as locally grown flowers and vase rentals to reduce waste.
What’s trending in 2012? The florist serving weddings in the Denver Metro area and mountain resorts often receives requests for vintage and vintage-inspired flowers.
Tell us about the bouquet you selected to highlight: Priced at $200, Freeman’s pastel bouquet design includes white peonies, peach garden roses, white scabiosa, white astilbe, dusty miller, maiden hair fern and pale pink dahlias. “The lacy shapes of the astilbe, peonies and scabiosa blend perfectly with the more solid forms of the dahlias and roses. The soft pastel color palette and feathery (look) of this bouquet evokes a bygone era of silken petticoats and lace-trimmed gloves,” says Freeman.

What makes the company special? After 17 years in business together, Crab Apple Creek owners Tami Kramer and Kim Neitenbach still share tears when they deliver bouquets to Colorado brides. Their passion and enthusiasm for wedding floral design creates a highly personal experience for couples throughout the planning process. “We get goose bumps right along with them (brides) as we brainstorm or walk through our wholesale house picking out their blossoms…We feel very blessed to do what we love,” says Kramer.
What’s trending in 2012? Recognizing that no two weddings are the same, the Crab Apple Creek owners take pride in the originality of their arrangements. The florists, who design from their home workshops and deliver to events throughout the Denver Metro area and a wide range of mountain locations, note that there isn’t a most popular color choice among their clientele. “Our brides are all over the spectrum,” says Kramer. Some of the company’s clients select arrangements to highlight the season in which the wedding is planned. “Personally I love spring weddings so I can use peonies but because of my love for flowers, I truly enjoy doing every wedding,” says Kramer.
Tell us about the bouquet you selected to highlight: The orange and yellow bouquet that Crab Apple Creek designed for an outdoor fall wedding at Red Rocks is priced at $135. The vibrant roses, protea, orchids, freesia, calla lilies and gerbera daisies in the bouquet add a pop of color to and bridal attire and celebrates the beauty of fall in Colorado.
